New Orthopedic Surgeon joins the Little Company of Mary – San Pedro Hospital medical staff

Did you know that fractures or “broken bones” are among the most common orthopedic problems in the United States and that more than 6.8 million receive medical attention each year? Of these fractures, the most common in people under 75 years of age is the wrist fracture. It is fortunate, then, that Greg Keese, MD, recently joined the staff at Little Company of Mary – San Pedro Hospital.

A native of the Palos Verdes Peninsula and a Miraleste High School graduate, Dr. Keese earned his medical degree from Georgetown University School of Medicine in Washington, DC, and served his orthopedic surgery residency at Loma Linda University Medical Center. He then headed north to the University of California at San Francisco for a fellowship in hand and upper extremity surgery. While at UCSF, Dr. Keese provided medical care for upper extremity injuries sustained by the sports teams at UC Berkeley.

Dr. Keese was drawn to his specialty by the vast body of research on the area and also the level of precision required in hand and wrist surgeries.

“The wrist and hand have a lot of structural detail,” Keese said. “Surgeries here require very delicate attention. I enjoy the challenge and look forward to helping those who rely on their hands for their livelihoods.”

Dr. Keese was drawn back to his hometown by the need of the local community for a skilled and dedicated surgeon specializing in injuries of the hand, wrist and elbow. San Pedro, with its industrial climate, provided just such an attraction.  Continue »
