Little Company of Mary Hospital has opened a new customer-focused Outpatient Diagnostic
Center integrating our healing environment with the latest technology. The diagnostic
center houses an electrophysiology lab, cardiac catheterization labs, diagnostic
cardiology, MRI, CT technology, imaging (x-ray) services, the nuclear medicine
department, and a laboratory draw station. Located on the ground floor of the hospital,
this newly remodeled area includes parking adjacent to the centers entrance
just off of Earl Street.

Making outpatient testing more convenient is only one of many things that will
improve patient care. In addition to the soothing environment created with color
and warm lighting, patients can store personal belongings in a private locker and
dawn a comfortable robe to wear during their procedures. Warm blankets are also
available during testing since exam rooms are frequently kept cool to meet the
technologic requirements of sophisticated equipment.

Caring for the whole person is an important aspect of the Outpatient Diagnostic
Center and that includes the patient not worrying about a family member. An
in-house pager available for family members allows them to go to the cafeteria,
chapel, gift shop or one of the healing gardens while their loved-one is having
testing or a procedure done. When the patient is ready to go home, the receptionist
can page the visitor to return to the Outpatient Diagnostic Center. All of the
features and amenities of the center were designed to improve patient access,
convenience, comfort and privacy.

The technological aspect of the center is as innovative as the new approach to
patient comfort. A flat-panel, digital cardiac catheterization lab (the only one
of its kind in the South Bay) provides a new technology that generates a lower
dose of radiation to the patient, physician, and their staff. The images for
the flat-panel technology are truly amazing allowing for the physician to
visualize the various areas of the heart with more clarity than
ever.

Physicians are now able to access a Picture Archiving Communication System
(PACS) for viewing imaging results. The filmless image gives physicians the
ability to review imaging studies through a computer within minutes of
completing an exam. In addition, this digital capability can be accessed in
the physicians office or home. A similar system also makes EKG readings
available to physicians at remote locations.
